Instructor Expectations

    ·    I expect all students to be in their seats and ready to learn when class begins.

    ·    Students are expected to participate in group activities and class discussions

    ·    Students will sign in/out on a the sign in computer in the classroom

    ·    I expect that students will remember the Student Handbook in their conduct

          and speech while in class.

AS A REMINDER:

    ·    Students will not bring cell-phones into the classroom or keep them on silent.

    ·    Students will not bring drinks into the classroom without a reusable lid.

    ·    Students will not chew tobacco products in the classroom.

    ·    Students will return all textbooks and/or calculators they are allowed to use in

          the classroom.

Instructional Methods

  • Instruction follows an 8-week cycle, so students should attend as often as possible.  We will cover all

material in class and offer you time to practice.  However, if you find you are having trouble in an area,

don’t hesitate to speak up.  I don’t mind repeating myself.

  • Only during the first 15 minutes of class will I accept questions concerning homework. Therefore, it is

important that you report to class on time.

  • I will introduce new concepts (as indicated under Schedule of Instruction) through modeling and thinking

aloud, and we will practice them together in class.  Then you will practice independently, after which we

      will review your work together.

  • If you need extra practice in any area, ask for the work listed on the NEED HOMEWORK? Link on my

website:  http://www.winchesteradulteducation.org/Handy%20Helpers.htm. Here you will find the class

syllabus too. If you visit one of the labs, take this work with you.

  • Visit our website often, for I have included a good number of great study helpers there.

Classroom Politics

  • You are required 50 hours of classroom study before you are eligible for re-testing at the end of the session,

so it is extremely important that you attend class regularly.

  • If you have entered the classroom late or finding it difficult to keep up, don’t fret.  The Math/Language Lab

is available for those who need to “catch-up” or “fall behind” on their studies. You have a number of other

      options too, just ask.

  • If you enter the classroom late, you are expected to quietly sign in, gather your handouts from their designated

spot, and quietly take your seat.

  • I will not review the instruction you missed; you will have to pick-up where we are and move forward.

I suggest you find a study-buddy from whom you can collect notes after class, or set up a time to catch-up

      in the Math/Lang Lab.

  • If you know you will not be able to attend a class period, make arrangements to cover the material you’ve missed.

This will keep you from falling too far behind.  Again, make arrangements to visit our labs. However, if you do fall

      behind, simply request a tutor.

  • If you find you are having trouble in any area at any time, I should know immediately, so we can make arrangements

with a tutor or sign up for one of the labs.

I hope to make you comfortable and confident in your own learning.  Classroom procedure and instruction was designed

to give you ownership of your own learning while we work as a team to meet your academic and life goals.  Good Luck J
